Joshua Dunbar: Sergeant;
5TH MASSACHUSETTS COLORED CAVALRY REGIMENT, Co. 'F'; Res. Troy, Ohio; Plasterer, age 42; muster-in February 22, 1864; muster-out October 31, 1865; last paid to December 31, 1865. He served in the 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry from June 2, 1863 to October 22, 1863, having been discharged due to injuries received by lifting while on fatigue duty on Folly Island, South Carolina. He is the father of poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. He died in the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers on August 16, 1885 due to Pleuro Pneumonia, and is resting at the Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.
