Joined as Corpl Co K 39th Regt, Aug. 29, 1861. Resident of Jackson County. Promoted 1st Lieut Co M 8th Indiana Cavalry. Resident of Austin. Commissioned Jan. 5, 1864. Mustered Feb. 26, 1864. Killed in action [near Dallas, Ga]. The Eight Cavalry was originally organized as the 39th Indiana Infantry. Companies L and M were organized in September, 1863, and on joining the command in the field, the regiment was, on Oct. 15, 1863, reorganized as the Eighth Indiana Cavalry. -Indiana AG Vol. 2.
