Horvel CURTIS CASSADA was born Feb 19, 1896 MO, son of Jesse Douglas CASSADA and Virginia Evelyn Friend who lived Dade and Greene Co, MO. Horvel died north of Everton, Dade Co, MO. Horvel md Nov 8, 1916 Dade Co, MO, Christine MYRTLE Curtis. Horvel and Virginia are buried Pilgrim Cemetery, Dade Co, MO. Jesse Douglas Cassada and his descendants all used two "ss" in the spelling of their names, changing from one "s" after the Civil War. Their oldest son, Col. Randall Curtis Cassada was a graduate of SW Missouri State University, an outstanding college athlete, he was an avid golfer and sportsman, and a Life master bridge player. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and after he was commissioned he later led the 488th Bombardment Squadron on 53 combat missions, piloting B-85's over Tunisia, Sicily, France and Italy, including the raid of Monte Cassino. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster and numerous other decorations. He was buried Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
