Dr. Carl Lewis Barnes was a physician, surgeon, lawyer, embalming college operator and demonstrator, 32 degree mason, medical colonel during WWI, inventor, embalming fluid compounder, author of medical and embalming textbooks, president of a national chain of embalming schools, politician, real estate investor in Chicago, and businessman in New York City with his brothers. He was born May 18, 1872 in Connellsville, PA., the son of Ellis Zephaniah Barnes who was a successful undertaker there. He died at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisc.
