| | What is not mentioned in the biography on this thread is that you were the grandson of Cotton Mather (hence your first name) and that you were widely remembered as the wittiest man in Boston. That was what gave you sufficient popularity to be able to return there after the Revolution and live there until you died without any difficulties. Samples of your wit can be found in Esther Forbes' biography of Paul Revere. -
