Flowers left for Dwight Morrow
Mr. Morrow, thank you for your splendid services as our ambassador with Mexico in the late 1920s, as the Mexican Revolution was reaching it's final stages. You had a cool head, and unlike other U.S. ambassadors did not do badly in the post (tricky as it was). Then you were elected to the U.S. Senate from New Jersey. Your daughter Anne married America's greatest hero. As 1932 approached the Republicans (tired of Herbert Hoover) considered you as the alternative. But you died suddenly in 1931. What the might have been could have been like is always hard to imagine. I like to think that you would have been the nominee. But would you have beaten FDR? That I don't think would have happened. You served the nation well Sir, and left an honorable name and reputation. Rest in peace Senator.
