Symonds - The Cyril Joad Society"Anniversary, again unnoticedCyril Joad's, five four bePainful death, of cancerApril nine, five three.Born five months laterLater, teaching meNever make too complexThat which should not be.Health in all abundanceWith wit and reason tooHis cup, it spilleth overWith pleasures overfilled.Evil he encounteredSaw pain of crueltyFace to face with himselfAnd Christ upon a tree.Words with scalpel knife did writeWith crystal clarityFlowing ink later transformedBy simple Charity.As a teacher he inspiredAs celebrity entertainedAs philosopher, outcast sureAs a Christian, forgotten now.Pain his final EasterLost faith in Reason clearFound Love beyond all measureWhat a Friend, did pray :'When it strikes that searing painI will be, Oh, so nearI, for you, Thy Healer beAnd Be eternally' "There will be The Cyril Joad 54th Anniversary Ramblette - on Tuesday April 10 2007 at 11.00 - from Amberley Station (to South Stoke) near Arundel Castle, Sussex - "The Most Beautiful Walk In Sussex".South Stoke Farm was "Folly Farm" (Cyril Joad's last posthumous work). He wrote many of his 70+ books at the Farm - an area in the South Downs he deeply loved.In 2003, the Chapel Barn was the venue of The South Stoke Festival of Thought - to mark the 50th Anniversary of C.E.M.J.'s death - in Hampstead, April 9 1953, aged 61.
