Dorothy R. Chesnik, 84, of Strabane, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, in Washington Hospital, following a five month illness.
She was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Sturgeon, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Wilbert Vercek.
Mrs. Chesnik lived her entire life in Strabane, where she had been a homemaker and member of KSKJ St. Jerome Lodge 153 and SNPJ Lodge 138.
She was a life member of St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg.
On Jun. 15, 1940, she married Joseph Chesnik, who died Apr. 19, 1999.
Mrs. Chesnik enjoyed dogs, especially her daughter's dog, Natasha.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara J. Chesnik of Canonsburg and Carolyn R. Seibert of Severna Park, Md.; two grandchildren, Rosalyn and Joseph Seibert; two sisters, Elizabeth Rodgers of Erie and Geraldine Polosky of Canonsburg; a brother, Thomas Vercek of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a sister, Mary Ann Oklesson, and a brother, Joseph Vercek Jr.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, where a blessing service will be held at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
