Lornie E. Gorsch was born on October 18, 1926 near Millersburg, IA, a son of Fred (Fritz) and Annie Grimm Gorsch. He attended Dayton Center and Millersburg schools. He was baptized in the Community Church near Millersburg. Lornie served with the US Army in Korea from 1945 to 1946. On March 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Laurene E. Dhondt at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Williamsburg, IA. They made their home in Millersburg. Lornie worked for the Iowa County Secondary Road Department for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He then worked for Marengo Ready Mix for a couple years. Lornie was a regular card player at the Home Town Café in Millersburg. In 1998 they moved to Williamsburg and then to Marengo in 2001. Lornie died following a sudden illness at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City on Tuesday, December 2, 2003. He is survived by is wife Laurene E. Gorsch of Marengo, IA; a daughter Barb Adix and husband Dan of Marengo; sons Donald Gorsch and wife Phyllis of Marion, IA and Bill McFadden and wife Mary Lou of Cedar Rapids, IA; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his step mother Blanche Gorsch of Cedar Rapids; 6 half brothers and sisters. Lornie was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Catherine, grandson Brian Gorsch and brothers Dwight and Edward Gorsch. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 3rd from 4 pm to 8 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Community Cemetery, rural Deep River, IA.
