Probably Scottish born, he became an outstanding Russian Sports organiser. First Chairman of the All Russia Lawn Tennis Union (1908-17) and Football Union (1912-13). Member of the Russian Olympic Committee 1911-1913.

He was arrested by the Bolsheviks in 1918. Released a few months later. After re-arrest, he died of typhus in a prison hospital. He was buried in Moscow, the place of burial is unknown. The cenotaph monument was erected in 2004 near the grave of his parents at the Smolensk Lutheran cemetery in St. Petersburg .
I found a document of St. Andrew Anglican church (Moscow) about burial of Arthur Macpherson: he died on the 20th of January 1920, and was buried on the 24th of January 1920 at Vvedenskoye Cemetery. So the date on the cenotaph is incorrect.
