Johnnie Herrington, age 87, of Palestine, Texas died Dec. 18, 2007. Burial in Roselawn Park was under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home, Palestine. He was born June 15, 1920, in Brushy Creek, the son of the late Vergil Carroll Sr. and Charity Caroline "Callie" Herrington. He graduated from Frankston High School and attended Lon Morris College, and Sam Houston State Teachers College. He served in the 530th Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Corps during World War II. He opened a real estate and insurance office in Palestine and retired from the insurance business in 2004. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. He served as mayor of Palestine from 1959-1963. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Raymond, Gilbert and Vergil; and sister, Mattie Lee Overton Porter. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Herrington; daughter, Ann Mottern; sons, Alan and Bob; brother, Charlie Eugene Herrington; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
