Wally was a wonderful man with a love of life. He enjoyed his work and made many friends during his career, which is how I knew him. His coworkers still remember him today, and we often speak of how remarkable a man he was.
Wally was proud to share the traditions of Louisiana, and would often send newspaper articles to me especially during Mardi Gras about the celebrations. Each year a beautifully packaged King Cake would arrive to my office on the East Coast, complete with beads on Mardi Gras, ensuring we were able to share in the stories and history of the holiday. The highlight of my first visit to New Orleans was meeting Wally in the French Quarter and learning the history of the area and meeting the local artists and merchants. Wally ensured that everyone enjoyed their visit to Louisiana and was proud of the traditions and culture.
He loved his family - his lovely wife Anita and his grandchildren were his greatest pleasure. He enjoyed golfing and was a big LSU football fan and could often be found tailgating at home games. Even during his illness, Wally was a vibrant man that never complained and enjoyed life to the fullest.
You are dearly missed Wally, and I am honored to have been able to call you my friend.

Wallace William Parker III, a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He died peacefully, with the grace of God, in the presence of his family after a short battle with cancer. He was 60. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Gold Bronze medals, having served in Vietnam. He served his country proudly during a time of political turmoil as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. "Wally," as his family called him, was an avid reader and golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. An instrumentation salesman in the petrochemical industry for more than 25 years, Wally was respected by his peers and associates. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace William "Bud" Parker II, of Lake Charles. Wally is survived by his loving wife, his son and his wife, and two grandchildren. Wally is also survived by his mother, sister, two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service at St. George Catholic Church.
