When I was a boy, back in the fifties, Gunsmoke was hugely popular, and I never missed an episode. Some of the men in town would close their shops early on the nights it aired, just to get home in time to see it. All the years it ran on TV, and the movies it spawned, are a testament to the quality of the writing, and to your portrayal of Marshall Matt Dillon, who is now a cultural icon. The quality of the scripts, and the great variety of guest stars made the show hugely entertaining. Doc, and Festus, and all the familiar characters became part of the American family. I hope you enjoyed those years. Now, all these years later, I will occasionally watch an episode on line, and recall what an excellent show it was. It still holds up. When I was a kid, all my buddies did not want to grow up to be astronauts, or firemen, or President of the United States. We wanted to be Marshall of Dodge City. And, somewhere inside this old man, I still do. RIP
