Thank you for your service during WW II and the Korean conflict, and for sharing your remarkable baseball talent with those of us who love the sport. God bless.

Ted, A deadly hitter. I like the quote of a pitcher who had to face you. When asked how he pitched to you he said, "I just throw the ball and back up third". You truly accomplished what you set out to do; become the greatest hitter who ever lived!

On this date 73 years ago -- Sept. 28, 1941 -- Ted Williams entered the final day of the season with a .400 average, but he insisted on playing a doubleheader against the A's at Shibe Park. He merely went 4 for 5 in Game 1, including his 37th homer, then 2 for 3 in Game 2 to finish with a .406 average, a .564 on-base percentage and a .735 slugging percentage. That year he walked 147 times and struck out just 27 times.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Ted. You were one of the greatest hitters ever. When I was young I had your signature Wilson glove.
