Billy Joe Patterson

Billy Joe Patterson, 76, of Brookston passed away at his home Wednesday February 18, 2009. Funeral services are set for 10:30 AM Friday Feb. 20, 2009 at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Edgar Clements and Rev. Ted White officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:30 until 8:00 PM.

He was born July 23, 1932 in the Hinkley community in Lamar County to Sherman Alva "Pat" and Opal Oakleaf Patterson. He was a graduate of West Lamar High School and served aboard the carrier USS Sipan during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox in 1988 after 33 years and then was employed by Tractor Supply and Whitaker Pawn. He was an ordained Baptist minister and pastored churches in Fannin and Delta Counties. He was a member of Brookston Baptist Church.

He married Barbara Carpenter on November 24, 1955 in Paris.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilbert Lee Patterson.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara and two sons, Edwin Joe Patterson of Brookston and James Bartley Patterson and wife Susan of Sulphur Springs; grandsons Shelton and Joseph Patterson of Brookston; granddaughters Lesli Donaldson and Drew Patterson of Dallas, Kaitlyn Patterson of Bonham, Jacy Patterson of Caviness and a great grandson, Tony Donaldson; brothers L.P. "Pete" Patterson and wife Doris of Brookston, Weldon Patterson and wife Ellen of Temple, Ted White and wife, Carol of Longview; sisters Faye Harris and husband Glen of Gruver, Ann Brockway and husband James of Paris and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers are Jim Patterson, Joe Patterson, Lynn Patterson, Kenneth Adams, Deryl Draper and Matt Arnold.
