William Blazeby, defender of the Alamo, was born in England in 1795. He traveled to Texas from New York by way of New Orleans as a second lieutenant in Capt. Thomas H. Breece's company of New Orleans Greys.

Blazeby took part in the siege of Bexar and remained in Bexar afterward as a captain and commander of the Greys under Lt. Col. James C. Neill.

He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836, under the command of Lt Col William Travis.
