John resided at Deep Creek, North Carolina during the Revolutionary War.
Prior to the war, he organized a company of which he was Captain and was
active as a Regulator. On March 10, 1761 Captain John received a grant of
land from Lord Granville on both sides of Deep Creek. He lived there
until his death.
