Pvt. First Class Robin Richard Annis of Canoga Park was the only son of Dolores and Richard Annis. He was an actor and was in many school plays at Canoga Park High School. His sister, Melody Lark Annis, is quoted as saying that her brother loved to read Shakespeare and John Steinbeck.
His nickname was "Hook" because he loved the story of Peter Pan. The news of his death came to the family on Good Friday.
Annis graduated from Canoga Park High and then went to Pierce College, studying drama.
While at Pierce College, Annis was in the Shakespeare play Othello and had a leading role playing Brabantio. A friend of Annis', who was in the same play, once told me the day they finished dress rehearsal and still in their Shakespeare costumes - tights and all. They went to the nearby bowling alley. It was a real event and a hilarious time for a bunch of 19-year-olds. Seven months later, Robin was killed in Vietnam.
On April 4, 1969, Robin was riding in the back of a Jeep, manning a machine gun, when the jeep hit a land mine, killing the driver and Robin. The passenger escaped with a broken leg.
