Graveside services for Daniel Reay Hawkins, 37, were held August 21 at the Eden Cemetery, with Roger Smith officiating. He died in August 18, 1992, in Eden.

The opening prayer was by Farrel R Layton and a special number, "Danny Boy," was sung by Christi Beals. Rodell Weech gave the sermon and Corthel Layton the dedicatory prayer. Serving as pall bearers were Daniel Reed, Billy Hawkins, Terry Bryant, Randy Hawkins, Royce Wood and Gary Hancock. Military honors were accorded by the Swift-Murphy Post No. 32 of the American Legion.

Hawkins was born July 31, 1955, in Safford, the son of Dan C Hawkins and Velma Jean Layton. He was raised and educated in Pima where he spent most of his life. He served in the United States Navy during the end of the Vietnam War as a flight crew member aboard the USS Enterprise. He returned to the Gila Valley and worked as a heavy equipment operator and farmer on area cotton farms, most recently in Eden.

Surviving are three daughters, Cara Elizabeth, Danielle Moon, and Kyleigh Hawkins of Fort Thomas; one son, Michael Boone of Fort Thomas; his mother, Velma Jean Layton Holley of Glendale; his father and step-mother, Dan and Kay Hawkins of Pima; his grandmother, Ida Norton Layton of Central; eight sisters, Jeannie Hawkins Wood of Pima, Lori Hawkins Lofgreen of Central, Teresa Hawkins Story of Phoenix, Joyce Slick Turner, Tina, Laura, Sandra and Denise Hawkins all of Pima; two brothers, Mark Layton Hawkins of Glendale and David Hawkins of Pima.
