I was at your grave this past weekend. Took a few pictures and remembered that morning I met you so long ago. Just finished a comparative piece on you and Sinclair Lewis which was published. Your Kendall Young Library is still there in Webster City. Rereading Missouri Bittersweet. Rest in Peace.

I finally got to Webster City today to pay my respects. I found the place where you rest with your wife, mother and grandparents. Also got to see the house where you lived and the Kendall Young Library which you called your University. You would still recognize tree lined Wilson Avenue. The weather today was perfect. May you continue to rest in peace.

I left a note in 2007. Now it is a cold winter night and I am reading your Missouri Bittersweet again. Such an awareness of the world around you. Your writing goes right to the heart of the matter and what people think and feel. I am so glad I got to meet you on that summer day in Columbia, Missouri in 1967.

Hi, Mr. Kantor. I sincerely hope you are at peace, in heaven. My all-time favorite novel is your "Spirit Lake". Decades ago I went to the Chicago Public Library to read the survivor's account of the massacre. Just today I learned that you also wrote the book upon which the movie "The Best Years of Our Lives" is based - and that's on my short list of all-time favorite movies. I must say thank you so very much for your efforts! Wishing I could have met you,
- K. Williams

Dear Mr. Kantor, In the summer of 1967, I had just finished high school and was working a summer job at the Missouri State Historical Society in Columbia, Missouri. One morning, the director of the society, Dr. Richard Brownlee, came in and said he wanted to introduce someone to us. The guest came in to the room and it was you. It was a very brief meeting, but you were very polite and very intelligent. Over time, I have read many of your works. Perhaps my favorite is Missouri Bittersweet, even if it does not have the fame of Andersonville or some of your other works. I am very glad I got to meet you. It gives me even more of a connection when I read your wonderful descriptive writing. Rest in peace.
