My father also flew with this group. Unfortunately he died in a plane crash in 1956, so I never got to know him. It's nice to know these men have been remembered.

My father was Horace Kreitner. I've always had my father's air medal, awarded for his service as a radio operator during the Burma Hop operation. I recall as a young boy his showing me the medal with pride. He was always sure to mention just how many boys we lost in the planes carrying the gasoline into China, that couldn't make the altitude over the Himalayas. He'd have been proud to see the service of his and the other men honored in Dayton and through this website.

You guys had a lot of guts! Almost no recognition either; I can't imagine how hard the hop must have been + over and over and over again too, it's almost unbelievable. Great Job + rest easy boys, even though you passed away far from from home it must be a beautiful place to be sometimes. One of my friends died hiking in Nepal in the 1990's + I know with you lot there he's in good company. Rest easy.
