Son of Ferrand and Caroline Hibbard Bigelow. Served in the Civil War. Entered service April 26, 1861. Enlisted into Co. K Second Wisconsin Infantry from Eagle, Wis. Transferred in the company to Battery A, First Wis. Heavy Artillery, Dec 8, 1861. Corporal, Sergeant, First Sergeant, Sergeant Major: mustered out of service July 6, 1864 term expired; see Company E. Engagements: Blackburns Ford, Va; Bull Run 1st, VA.

His brothers, William and Franklin B. Bigelow also served in the war. Franklin was killed in the mine explosion in Petersburg, VA.
