Marge was born to Ethel Mayfield and Philip Storms, the only child born to both. Each of her parents had been previously widowed and brought to their union a total of seven children who would be Marge's siblings.
She grew up in Pennslyvania, marrying William Russell Swinburn. Bill was in the United States service, she was her husband's civilian superior. (But, he could definitely outtype her!) After their service they made their home in Frackville PA. The oldest three of their children were born in PA. After the war times were difficult There was almost no work, save for the coal mines. Making the decision to move south, they loaded their three children and made the two day drive to Southeast Texas where husband, Bill, got hired on at the shipyard. Their youngest child at that time was their only daughter, Loretta. When they settled and enrolled their children in school, Loretta, who had been attending Kindergarten in Pennslyvania, was deemed too young to attend school in Texas.
Finding a place to live was not difficult, Orange had allowed the Navy to build hundreds of "temporary" housing units to handle all the personnel needed during the war. By the time Marge and Bill arrived in 1955 there were plenty of available units.
Marge ran a cake business from her home and she also worked for Charles S Nacol for many, many years, becoming a friend of the family as well as an employee.
After her mother becamed widowed again, she lived for a brief time with Marge and helped her "keep an eye" on the kids.
Marge loved to take trips, and would often go to visit her brothers, sisters and mother. After her daughter married and joined the service she would travel to whatever base her daughter was assigned. Her favorite, and most notable, was Las Vegas, NV. As she got older, she took her young grandchildren. She and Bill also loved to camp and fish. They had many travel trailers they used for trips until they finally settled on having a camp at the lake. Their two oldest grandchildren were the beneficiaries of many wonderful vacation times.
Marge was a phenominal cook. Any dinner at her house was bound to please any and everyone, and there was usually someone invited to dinner. Her home was a frequent dining place for the church's missionaries. She could create anything. She taught her woefully inexperienced daughter-in-law to master the art of
everything from melt-in-your-mouth pot roast (Dave's fav), to chicken 'n dumplings (Grandkids fav) to peanut butter fudge (Bill's fav). Her cakes were masterpieces, but her dau-in-law preferred what Marge called "just a plain ol' coconut cake"... it was like a little slice of heaven, and the one thing that Gina could never re-create.
After she developed Lupus and Bill retired they enjoyed a delightful time of babysitting. Although ill much of the time with various ailments secondary to her Lupus, she truly enjoyed her babysitting "career".
Later in life, seriously ill, and mostly house-bound, she passed the time with Bill and her son Bob who was still living at home. The accident that claimed the life of her oldest son "Bob" was devastating mentally, emotionally and physically. Marge lived just one year after Bob's death, passing away at home on May 28.
