United States Army Air Corps Officer. With the outbreak of World War II, he was assigned as the co-pilot of the B-17, the "Memphis Belle." The bomber and her crew would ultimately become the first to fly all of its required twenty-five missions in the European theater during the war, which was the number of missions needed to complete before being sent back to the United States. Her last mission was flown on May 17, 1943. After touring for a time in the United States, he returned to the war as commander of the B-17, "The Connecticut Yankee." He would ultimately retire from the army as a Lieutenant Colonel and went on to own a furniture business until his death. He resided with his wife and family in Woodbridge, Connecticut.
