Philippine Insurrection Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he served as a Sergeant in Company M, 27th Infantry, US Army Volunteers. On December 19, 1899, at San Mateo, Philippine Islands, he swim across a river under heavy enemy fire for the purpose of obtaining and returning with a canoe. For courage in action, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
