Would it be possible for the author of this article to correct the place of H.E.'s birth to RUSHDEN. Rushton is in a completely different part of Northamptonshire.

Mr. Bates, your DARLING BUDS OF MAY is "perfick"! The Larkin family really seems like family to my husband, Allan, my friend, Mary Jane, and me. We plan to visit "Larkin/Bates Country" soon and will think of YOU! Even though we live in Florida you have made Kent a special place to us and we thank you.

I like the way Mr. Bates describes flowers and seasonal weather changes in "Love for Lydia." His words on paper are like photographic images. He was a very talented writer and this American thinks highly of him.

"That morning many of the first roses, the blood red Etoile d'Hollande and that old pink variety Caroline Testout, were in bloom on the house wall. A tree of white lilac was in fool blossom under the walls of the dove cot. The sky was pure and very blue".A Moment In Time. How I adore this book.

Dear H E Bates - thank you for your wonderful books. I am reading the Larkins for the umpteenth time and I never tire of them. When summer arrives it's time for Pop and Ma and their brood to come off the bookshelf and draw me into their world. I wish life was really like that! God bless.
