Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. Born in Hubbard, Texas, he was an outfielder nicknamed 'The Grey Eagle' making his debut for the Boston Red Sox on September 12, 1907. For twenty-two seasons, he played with the Boston Red Sox (1907-15, as a player manager for the Cleveland Indians (1919-26), Washington Senators in 1927 and Philadelphia athletics in 1928. He played on three World Series Championship teams, batted over .380 five times, held the record for the most doubles with 792 and outfield assists with 449. He ended his career with a record of 3,514 hits, 1,882 runs scored, 117 home runs, 1,529 runs batted in and a .345 batting average. In 1937, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He died from a heart attack in Lake Whitney, Texas, at age 70.
