CIVIL WAR VETERAN...Peter Boyer Perry...Residence Oxford FL; a 40 year-old Farmer...Enlisted on 7/29/1863 at Lake City, FL as a Private....On 7/29/1863 he mustered into "F" Co. FL 9th Infantry... He was Surrendered on 4/9/1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA...Promotions:....1st Sergt 11/12/1863... born 4/11/1823 in Lancaster County, SC...died in 1899...Prewar Occupations....Farmer, Oxford, Sumter County, FL, 1845Volunteer Soldier.... He fought in the Mexican and Seminole Wars and according to family tradition, he was the first man to raise the US flag over the walls of Mexico City....His father's name was Joshua Perry Sr....Married Elizabeth Duke...He was a cousin of Florida Governor Madison Starke Perry....He is credited with founding the small town of Pedro in Marion County, FL.
