Founder of the religious movement known as "Branhamism" and the William Branham Evangelistic Association (Branham Tabernacle - Jeffersonville, Indiana). Established a worldwide following in the 1950s of his particular brand of Pentecostalism with a strong emphasis on faith healing. Many of his followers still claim him to be a major prophet. Some of these followers identify Branham as the "Elijah" mentioned in the fourth chapter of the book of Malachi in the Bible as well as the seventh angel from Revelations (3:14 and 10:7). Branham maintained that the word of God had been revealed to man through astrology (the zodiac), the bible, the prophets, and the Egyptian pyramids. It has been claimed, that during a session of baptizing in the Ohio river on June 11, 1933, a voice was heard saying, "As John the Baptist was sent to forerun the first coming of Christ you will forerun his second coming." This quotation is inscribed on Branham's pyramid-shaped monument in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Branham asserted that he received a commission from God sometime after World War II, which was ministered through an angel. Branham attributed his healing abilities to the presence of this angel. Branham's ministry was punctuated with purported photographic evidence of the supernatural, most notably a pillar of fire (or halo) above his head at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Texas, on January 25, 1950.
