James Adams, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012. He was born in Baltimore, MD and was a resident of Gloucester for eight years.

John was a 23-year veteran of the US Air Force and served both in WWII and the Korean War. He retired after 20 years with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, and was a longtime employee of the Deer Run Golf Course.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Betty) and daughter, Peggy. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Adams Nance and husband, Charles, and Mary Adams Williams and husband, Joseph Sr.; grandchildren, CDR Rachael Nance Dempsey, USN, and husband, Jack, Major in USMC, Kristie Lassiter Coleman, Capt. Elizabeth Williams Cramer, USAF and husband, Robert, and Joseph Williams Jr. and fiancée Dana Henry; Great-Grandchildren, Kaleb Barefoot, Gracie Dempsey, Mary Elizabeth Cramer, Jack Dempsey and Caroline Eva Cramer; and sister, Alice Bell of Raleigh, NC.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 11 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 12 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
