Son of William Francis and Mary Catherine Leighnor Hanes born in Franklin County KS Hays TWP.
Was a fun loving person and enjoyed his family. He and his sons were swinging across a creek when the rope broke he fell into the bank and severely fractured his leg. ending with blood poisoning in a Chanute Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Catherine, a son Charles Lester. Survived by his Father W.F., Wife Lottie, sons Lee, John, Bill, Lyle, Vernon, Maurice and Charles and daughter Stella

Charles Hanes of southwest of Waverly died in the Johnson Hospital Chanute Tuesday Morning at 3o'clock after a second operation on his leg which he injured in a fall at Joyland some time ago. Mrs Hanes has been constantly at the bed side of her husband. Poisoning from an infection was the immediate cause of death but the accident was the forerunner of the poisoning 8-13-25

Charles Hanes was buried Saturday afternoon in the Waverly cemetery after a very impressive and beautiful service in the Waverly Methodist Church A very large attendance was present and a great number of cars accompanied the body to its resting place east of Waverly.
Mr Hanes was injured some time ago and two operations were necessary but infections set in resulting in death. He leave to mourn his passing his wife and eight children seven boys and one girl.
Relatives from Salt Lake City and Blackfoot, Idaho attended the funeral
Rev H.C. Foster conducted the service and spoke in sympathy for the life of one now gone and for those who remain to whom he was most dear. A mixed quartet composed of A C Cook, Mrs R C Michael, Mrs John Neighbors and E A Farrow sang.
Charles Lester Hanes son of William and Mary Hanes was born near Ottawa Feb 9, 1879 and passed away at the Johnson hospital Chanute KS Aug 11, 1925.
When 9 years of age he with his parents moved to the Glenwood neighborhood where he has since resided.
On Oct 30 1899 he was married to Lottie Dixon and to this union 9 children were born, one son, Lester dying in infancy.
He leaves to mourn his departure a loving companion, seven sons, Lee, John, Will, Lyle, Vernon, Maurice, Charles and one daughter Estella, besides an aged father,one sister three brothers and many other relatives and friends.
He possessed a kind disposition and was ever ready to help a friend or neighbor in distress.
