William A. Work, 87, of 807 South Willomet, died Friday at local hospital. Survived by son, E. C. Work, Bagdad, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Porter A. Whaley of San Antonio, Mrs. B. R. Willett and Miss Maud Work of Dallas; brother, Judge T. A. Work, Dallas. Funeral services 4 p.m. Saturday at the residence. Arrangements with Poole Funeral Home.

Entering the service when he was 15 years old is the record of W. A. Work, 807 Willomet.

Work was in the cavalry during the war. He was in the Battle of Chickamauga. After that battle his detachment followed Longstreet from Knoxville to Bristol on the Virginia-Tennessee line. He was at Bristol when Lee surrendered. His command was gathering supplies for the army. On the first of May 1865, his command surrendered at Kingston, Ga. Work entered the Confederate service in June 1863 at Knoxville, Tenn. His father, Jacob A. Work, was a Captain of the company in which he served. W. A. Work will be 87 in October.
