Joe is one of my best friends: I was near the day he was killed. Joe was a special guy who not only went to Viet-Nam, but went twice. I am proud to say he was my friend and because of his efforts and the loss of his life, I am able to live in a free country and lead a fee life. Thank you for your friendship Joe. David Loar, 50023 Beaver Rd, Aberdeen, MS 39730.

I just wanted you to know, you are not forgotten. You are loved and missed. My prayers to you and your family. If anyone knows this brave soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice, would you please contact us so we can honor Joseph by having his picture placed on his former unit, the 1/5 Mech website memorial page and on the Wall, [email protected].

Joseph Tatem Benton was originally buried in the family grounds on Woodland Church Road, but 5 years later his family have him moved to a spot in town, where more people would be able to find his grave easier.
