Sarge was a colorful young game stag that one day in December 2007, just showed up in our part of the neighborhood. Although there are many other homes in this rural area which have chickens in their yards, no one seemed to know from where he came from. He soon became a popular fixture, strutting and scratching around in our yards. He finally made his main roost in the yard with a large carob tree at my neighbors house directly behind mine. He was a joy to see everyday perched on the fence, crowing morning, noon and night, to announce his presence. To summons his attendance if he couldn't be seen, I would call his name and he'd come running to receive his daily treat of chicken feed. On the evening of the full moon February 20, 2008, was the last time Sarge was seen and heard crowing. The next morning he was no where to be found and since there was no trace of him, it was assumed that he became a victim of a night owl.
