Husband of: Mary Agnes Wingard Cather
Father of: 2 sons and 2 daughters
--------------------------------------
My dad, Robert Francis Cather
Bob Cather was dedicated to the service of his fellow man. He taught me this in a variety of ways. He was kind and ever giving to his friends, neighbors and community. He served his country in the Army in both war and peace time. He loved his family, even though his work with the military often kept him from home. His biggest love was his wife, Mary, and the care of his children, no matter how menial the job. He did everything to the BEST of his ability and expected the same from us.
He was brilliant and educated. It seems he knew about EVERYTHING from the navigation of the oceans to science and engineering. His military service made him a world traveller. He visited the seas and ports of the Pacific from New Zealand, Australia, China and Hawaii. We lived in Germany for several years in my youth, where my father ensured that we were immersed in the culture and we made life long friends. He was one of the smartest men I ever met and yet one of the most humble as well. He did not talk down to anyone or make them feel "less than." He was gracious and charming and made folks feel good to be around him.
What more important gifts can a man leave to his children ?
