Jack Arthur LaBorde, age 78, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, in Magnolia, Texas, after a courageous battle for his life.
Jack was born January 19, 1933, in Pleasanton, Texas, to Sanford (Sam) Joseph and Audrey Brown LaBorde. He grew up in Campbellton, hunting and fishing with his brother, Sam. After his mother's death in 1947, he went to live with his grandmother in Corpus Christi. They later moved to Jourdanton while Jack attended high school in Pleasanton.
Jack's dream was to be a professional soldier. He entered the U.S. Army and rapidly excelled in his military career. Jack served in Korea from 1951-1953, and a second tour from 1955-1957. He served as a mortician after attending grave registration school at Fort Lee, Virginia.
He served with the 82nd Airborne Division in 1959 and completed Jump Master course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He went to Turkey and Iran from 1960-1963 with this Division in 1965.
Jack went to Vietnam with the 327th Infantry 101st Airborne where he fought hand to hand with the enemy. He was wounded, recovered and sent back to Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with 4 major campaign stars, Republic of Korea Unit Citation, United Nations Medal, three Good Conduct Awards, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Drill Sergeant Medal.
He was an expert parachutist with 416 jumps and was awarded parachutist badges and received an expert rifle sharpshooter badge.
After his military service, Jack lived in Magnolia, Texas, where he owned and operated an appliance distributorship business.
Jack was first married to Tillie Ewing, and to this union two sons were born, Jack Jr. and Mick LaBorde.
He later married Barbara Moore. Barbara had two daughters Jacquelyn and Sherri whom Jack adopted. Jack and Barbara had one son, Waylon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Sam LaBorde and sister Audrey Louise Pickett.
