Methodist minister whose church was(and is today) the Rosemary Henderson Building on the corner of Rosemary & Henderson streets in Chapel Hill. He held The Chair of Mental and Moral Philosophy at UNC-Chapel Hill, 1875-1890, which he held until his death, and still part of the faculty.

Rev. Mangum helped to reopen the University of North Carolina in 1875. He held the Chair of Mental and Moral Philosophy from 1875-1890 and taught English lit. He and his family lived at 315 Rosemary street in Chapel Hill, which the family owned until 1944. He is a cousin of U.S./N.C. Senator Willie Person Mangum
