Called "Daddy Bill" by little Kathryn and her cousins, William was shot 'by hands unknown' in the home and died at the scene. An inquest was held but who pulled the trigger could not be determined. Neither suicide nor murder could be ruled out.
Years later Kathryn would say the official story said only 3 people were in the house at the time, William, Juanita, and little Sonny. What Kathryn said family believed was that a jealous boyfriend of Juanita's shot William. Nothing has been found yet in the papers I have received from KS re the incident to suggest anyone else was in the house, so the 'jealous boyfriend' who possibly did exist, was possibly solely blamed by a family who could not fathom the idea that William would have committed suicide. ~ melissa springer robards
