Dr. Heath was the founder of the American Numismatic Association. He was born in Warsaw (Wyoming County) NY on September 20, 1850. He died in Monroe on June 16, 1908. He served as a four-time Mayor of Monroe: 1890-96, and 1897-1906. Spouses: 1) Lucy May Rayhill, m. Dec 25, 1876 d. 1895. 2) Edith Buns m. Aug 18, 1879.
Dr. Heath was an 1881 graduate of the University of Michigan where he remained as resident physician and surgeon at the University Hospital there. He came to Monroe in 1884 to begin his general medical practice.
Dr. Heath was a prolific collector, and founded the magazine "The Numismatist" which he published and edited there in Monroe in 1888. It is still being published today. He founded the American Numismatic Association in 1891, which received its charter from the U.S. Congress, and is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where The Numismatist is now published.
