Mom passed away at Gettysburg Hospital after several years of battling cancer.
Survived by her husband RICHARD E MILLER & loving children Linda S. McNew (New Oxford), Gary R. Miller & Helen Gantz Bair (Gettysburg), Rose Ann Emlet McCleaf (York Springs). Pre deceased by granddaughter CORINNA MILLER


She & her husband owned and operated Miller's Service Station (Gettysburg) and Miller's School Bus Service (Gettysburg & New Oxford).

She was the daughter of Raymond S. & Mary Jane Mayer.

Mom was very much a family person. Our house was the gathering place and most Saturday nights we would have a house full - adults playing cards & kids playing everywhere.
Wed nights were family time also - 1 week at our house & the next at Aunt Helen & Uncle Boyds. Most Sunday afternoons found Aunts & Uncles there too. In the summer the adults would put the cards aside if the weather was nice & go outside for horse shoes or twister.

Our family had a tradition that I have not seen anywhere else - If you went to visit & they weren't home - we went in and re-arranged their furniture. All our Aunts & Uncles participated and what fun to come home and find someone had been there. Then we would all get busy putting things back. (It was even more fun to do the re-arranging at someone else's house). We all knew where everyone kept their keys so even though the houses were locked - we still got in. If by chance the key wasn't there - the porch & yard were rearranged.

When anyone was moving - we all pitched in - everyone came with their pickup trucks & the move was completed in 1 day including 99% of the packing & unpacking. The lady of the house would go to the new house with the first load to tell the men where to put everything, The other ladies would stay at the old house till everything was packed - marking each box with the room and contents & when finished would go to the new house to help with the unpacking, The kitchen was always the first room moved so when we were finished - there was always plenty to eat.

Neighbors would come to our house during winter storms when the electric was off - their furnaces needed electric to run. We had a gas stove and Mom would light the oven and let the door open to heat the room and the adults played cards by oil lamp light. (yes - my parents played a LOT of cards).

The word "Wheelbarrow" will always have special meaning to me. When I was learning to read I would read out loud to Mom as she made supper. If I ran across a word I didn't know she would say "Say wheelbarrow and go on"

She was a loving, hard working woman who is sorely missed."WE LOVE YOU,MOM!" I remember Mom taking care of everyone when they were sick and was rarely sick until she got cancer. She, along with other family members sat with her oldest brother while he lay dying of cancer. She took care of her Mom when she was recovering from a stroke and she took care of Grandpa when he could no longer stay by himself and he moved in with Mom and Dad.

Mom loved birds especially cardinals. Her favorite flower was pink carnations. She hated lilies.

Mom was not a golfer and was never on a golf course in her life but she watched it on TV because she loved the beautiful courses.

On Presidental Election night she would stay up all night running her own tally as the numbers were reported.

Cause of death - cancer which started in the colon then spread to her liver and bones.
