born in Cork, Ireland ca. 1800, the eldest child of Sarah (Jameson) and William Belcher, Jr. She was married to Edward Loftus Hope Barry on 26 April 1823 by the Reverend R. Lloyd at Douglass Church in Cork. They had eight children, three of whom I know nothing other than their names and dates of birth, that she kept in her own handwriting. Five of the children came with her to America in the middle of the nineteenth century. Family tradition says that her husband had 'gone security' for a partner who went bankrupt. Apparently he was able to arrange passage to the new world for his family, but there is no record of him from that point on that that has as yet been found. She was known as "Gran" to all of her grandchildren. Children that lived to maturity: Maria Harris; Sarah Badley; Charlotte McArthur; Theodosia is not believed to have ever married; and Edward Loftus Hope Barry, M.D. who was a Surgeon in the Civil War and then a general practitioner in Jerseyville, Illinois. She died at "The Woodburn Grange" the home of her daughter Sarah Badley and was buried on the Badley cemetery lot.
