Harm Tjaden, 79, a lifelong resident of the Benson-Minonk area, died at 7:45 o'clock last night (Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1958) at St Francis hospital, Peoria. Mr. Tjaden had a stroke last February, but had recovered and was in fairly good health until a week ago, when he became ill and entered the hospital.
The body was taken to the Tallyn-Folkers Memorial Home in this city, where friends may call after 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon (Friday). Funeral services will be held from St Paul's Lutheran church in Benson on Saturday, Aug. 30, with burial in the Benson cemetery.
Mr. Tjaden was born in Linn township, west of Minonk, on June 28, 1878, a son of Tjade and Heimke Smidt Tjaden. He was united in marriage with Hannah Woltzen on Aug. 30, 1900. She survives, and they would have observed their 58th wedding anniversary this coming Saturday, Aug. 30.
Mr. Tjaden farmed in Linn township until 1912, when he moved to a farm a mile north of Benson. In 1914 he moved to a farm east of Benson, where he and Mrs. Tjaden have since resided. Mr. Tjaden served three terms as a trustee of St Paul's Lutheran church of Benson, and also served as a director of the Farmers Co-Op. Elevator, in Benson, for 28 years, resigning in 1957.
Surviving, besides his widow, Mrs. Hannah Tjaden, are their five children: Mrs. Ervain Hansen (Fannie), of Streator; Edward Tjaden of Minonk; Louis Tjaden of Hudson; Lester Tjaden of Benson; and Mrs. Roy Kelsey (Pearl) of Kirkland. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and by four brothers and three sisters; Clarence Tjaden of Peoria; Jack Tjaden of Cazenovia; Ralph Tjaden of Lowpoint; Charles Tjaden of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Eno Brauer (Kate) of Rockford; Mrs. Al Moreland (Minnie) of California; and Mrs. Clifford Reddy (Ann) of Peoria. Three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
