Bernard was baptized 27MAY1883 at St. Patrick's AuroraCayugaNY by Rev. T. A. HENDRICK with sponsors: Patrick MCDERMOTT and Margarita GILLESPIE.

In MoraviaCayuga NY, he attended four years at St. Andrew Prep Seminary where he graduated. After a few years as a school teacher, he studied philosophy at St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester, NY for two years, and Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD for one year where he was ordained 03MAY1917 in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. His first solemn High Mass was said at St. Patrick's in Aurora NY Sunday 06MAY1917 at 10:30AM.

As a Roman Catholic Priest he served the Rockford IL Roman Catholic Diocese(incardinated 13NOV1914 - ordained 3MAY1917) at Galena till 25SEP1919 as Asst. Pastor of St. Mary's Parish, Rockford IL as Chaplain St. Anthony Hospital & taught at St. Thomas H. S. till 01NOV1925, & Sandwich IL as Pastor of St. Mary's Parish till his death in 1928.

He officiated at the funerals in Iowa of many of the children of Roger Heffernen(#028).

In 1925, he was the author of "Some Cross Bearers of the Finger Lake Region" - Seymour Public Library, Auburn, NY & 1995 Reprint at Falcone Library, Le Moine College, Syracuse NY 13216. This book recounts the early Roman Catholic Parishes of Cayuga Co. NY.
