H.I. Brackett wrote in his Brackett Genealogy (1907) that . . . Little is known of [Thomas Brackett] prior to his marriage to Mary Mitton, daughter of Michael Mitton. . . . His wife's mother, Elizabeth Mitton, daughter of George Cleeve, married for her second husband, a Mr. Harvey. Mrs. Harvey lived with Thomas [and Mary] in 1671. . . . Probably there were few [families] in Casco who had brighter prospects before them or were more happily situated than [them], when the fateful year, 1676, brought ruin, desolation and death to [them]. . . . saw Thomas Brackett shot down while at work in his field. . . . witnessed the capture of Thomas Brackett's wife [Mary] and children. . . . [Mary] died during the first year of her captivity. [1676 or 1677]
