Tombstone of Cornelius Barhydt lying flat on its back on the ground at Vale Cemetery. Presumably this stone was moved from the old Front Street burial ground inside the Stockade to Vale Cemetery after the latter was opened in 1870. Cornelis Barhydt's name and dates are inscribed on the back of this tall monument in Vale Cemetery to Col. J. Andrew Barhydt (1814-1905)-- presumably because Cornelius was the patriarch of the family (and probably a grandson of Cornelius, although I have been unable to verify that).
