Sgt. James Douglas Locker served in the USAF as a pararescueman, and died in 1968 during the Vietnam war when his helicopter crashed and exploded while attempting to rescue a downed pilot, killing all 4 crew members aboard. Due to heavy enemy fire and intense enemy presence, ground search was not possible. Sgt. Locker and his crew were not recovered at that time.

For 35 years, he was listed as MIA until his remains were found and identified in February of 2003. Sgt. Locker's remains were recovered and returned to his home in Sidney, OH, in September 2003 for burial with full military honors.

Sgt. Locker received multiple awards and decorations for his distinguished military service both prior to his death, and posthumously as well.

The USAF dedicated two buildings to the memory of Sgt. Locker at Keesler AFB, in Biloxi, MS, and Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH.

Sgt. Locker's parents were Robert W. and Dorothy M. Locker, who lived in Sidney, OH, at the time of his death. He was a 1965 graduate of Sidney HS.
