Lockey J. Hunt Bayless is the seventh child of Amanda Jane Caudell and John Austin Hunt. She was born December 16, 1868 in Johnson County, Arkansas. She married George T. Bayless November 13, 1889 at Monroe, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. George T. Bayless is the son of James M. Bayless (1843-1885) and Nancy Ann Ritter (born 1846); he was born in June of 1870 in Mississippi.
The 1900 census shows the family in Monroe, in section T6N-R26E, LeFlore County, Indian Territory, as follows: George T. Bayless, head of household, age 29, born in Mississippi, occupation mercantile business; Lockey J. Bayless, wife, age 30, married 10 years, 4 children born/3 living, born in Arkansas. Children listed in the household were John William Bayless, son, age 9, born in Indian Territory; Ralph Ezra Bayless, son, age 4, born in Arkansas; and Savannah Marie Bayless, daughter, age 2, born in Arkansas.
On October 29, 1901, R. C. Bayless was born; he lived just more than three months and died on February 8, 1902. He is interred at the cemetery in Monroe, Oklahoma.
During this decade the family moved to Wister, I.T., where George T. Bayless established a retail business near the junction of the two railroads. Records of the First Baptist Church of Wister show that Lockey J. Bayless joined that church in 1909 and remained a member until April of 1917.
The 1920 census shows Lockey Bayless living with her son Ralph E. Bayless in Wilburton, Oklahoma. The household is enumerated as follows: Ralph Bayless, head of household, age 22, born in Oklahoma, occupation Cashier in bank; Ona Bayless, wife, age 23, born in Oklahoma; Lockey Bayless, mother, age 51; June Bayless, sister, age 16, born in Oklahoma.
Court records related to Ardena Hunt Holliman show that Lockey J. Hunt Bayless was living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in February of 1927. Her residence was also given as Oklahoma County in 1928 when she and the other heirs sold the LeFlore County estate property at 14-5-24 to William F. Hunt of Wister.
Lockey J. Hunt Bayless died in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1958; she is interred next to her husband at the Monroe Cemetery at Monroe, Oklahoma.
