You will always be remembered, Sir, for the brave man you were, a soldier in our Civil War when brother fought against brother, Never Again! I regret your early demise and recall hearing your letter to your sweet wife, who loved and missed you so. Rest in Peace in Heaven where there are no guns or wars, and where your beloved Sarah joined you when she passed from this life in 1917. With Respect,
- Kathie L. Webb Blair

Letter Home found Norfolk VaJuly 14, 1861My Dear Wife,The indications are very strong that we shall move in a few days, perhaps tomorrow, and lest I should not be able to write youagain I feel impelled to write a few linesthat may fall under your eye when I am nomore....I have no misgivings about or lackof confidence in the cause in which I amengaged, and my courage does not halt orfalter... Sarah, my love for you is deathless. It seems to bind me with mighty cables that nothing but Omnipotence can break and yetmy love of country comes over me like a strong wind and bears me irresistible withall those chains to the battlefield. Thememories of all the blissful moments I have enjoyed with you come crowding overme, and I feel most deeply grateful to God and you that I have enjoyed them solong.... If I do not return,my dear Sarah, never forget how much I loved you...Sullivan Balloud.July 21, 1861
