My Great Great Aunt Sister Regina Bernadette Wesnofske, O.P., a Sister of St. Dominic, Amityville, New York for 78 years, died Oct. 4th, 2012 , She was 94.
Regina "Jeanie" Stella entered the congregation from St. Hugh of Lincoln, Huntington Station, L.I., in 1934. The following year, she received the habit and her religious name, Sister Regina Bernadette. On Aug.18, 1936, she pronounced her religious vows.
Her first teaching assignment was at St. Martin, Amityville. In 1938, she moved to Brooklyn and taught at St. Michael, E. New York, and Our Lady of Solace, Coney Island. She taught at Corpus Christi, Mineola, L.I., 1940-47; St. Pancras, Glendale, 1947-49; St. Patrick, Huntington, L.I., 1958-62; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Lindenhurst, L.I., 1962-65; and St. Catherine of Siena, Franklin Square, L.I., 1965-69.
She acted as a chauffeur for retired Sisters in Villa Maria, Water Mill, 1969-72.
She was an assistant librarian in Maria Regina H.S., Uniondale, L.I., 1972-1984, and Corpus Christi, 1984-88. When she retired to Rosary Hall, Amityville, she volunteered in the library of St. Anthony H.S., Huntington New York
