Garrett Dewey Warren, 101, of 29 Hartshorn Drive, Candler, died Thursday, December 10, 2009, at the VA Medical Center.

Mr. Warren was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late William M. and Lula Lunsford Warren. He was married for 65 years to Juanita Snelson Warren, who died in 2005.

Mr. Warren was a decorated Army veteran of WW II, and he was a member of the charter class of Asheville-Biltmore Junior College. He was retired after 38 years with Morgan/Drexel Manufacturing Co. and he was a member of Horney Heights/Malvern Hills Baptist Church and attended Deaverview Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Linda W. Shreffler and her husband, Jim, of Fletcher; one son, Gary D. Warren and his wife, Peggy, of Highlands and Asheville; daughter, Diane W. Austin of Candler; seven grandchildren, Kevin Trantham and his wife, Ali, Phillip Trantham and his wife, Michele, Gregory D. Warren and his wife, Debbie, John G. Warren, Stephen R. Warren, Page Blevins and her husband, Lee, and Ray Austin; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Connor, Gabrielle, and Theo Trantham, Grant D. and Andrew P. Warren, Matthew Blevins, and Lacey B. Machmuller and her husband, Mike.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Houston officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Mausoleum. The Buncombe County Veterans Council will provide military honors.
